Cranbrook’s pool was no good for water polo, so the taxpayer helped fund a new one.
I find it hard to share the relief of the Cranbrook school council president that the $125m five-storey facilities upgrade at the school will, among other things, finally overcome the educational disadvantage of having only a “25-metre pool that wasn’t very good for water polo”.
I have no objection to the existence of wealthy non-government schools, no interest in the level of fees they charge and only passing bemusement at their competing to attract clientele through the provision of lavish capital works.
